Mayson could run once more before the curtain is brought down on his racing career at the end of this season.

Cheveley Park Stud bought a majority share in the Richard Fahey-trained four-year-old following his brilliant victory in the July Cup at Newmarket and he will be taking up stallion duties once this campaign finishes.

He very nearly became a dual Group One winner when just caught close home by Wizz Kid in Sunday's Prix de l'Abbaye, and Fahey is now considering whether to run his colt one last time in the Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 20.

The trainer said: "He has a bit of a bruised foot but he seems fine this morning.

"It was one of those races where you wish you could go and do it all again, but he's run a wonderful race.

"He was coming back to five furlongs and we're delighted with the performance, but a bit frustrated about the result.

"I feel a bit like I've had my pocket picked.

"We'll think about Ascot, but we'll see how he is and go from there.

"He's definitely going to Cheveley Park at the end of the year, so it's a question of whether he has one more run or not."
