Tom Dascombe: Trains the hat-trick seeking Ballista
Tom Dascombe has his fingers crossed that drying conditions will bring out the best in Ballista who aims to complete a hat-trick in Saturday's Dubai International Airport World Trophy at Newbury.
Well-regarded as a juvenile, the four-year-old was largely disappointing in 2011 but is enjoying a decent season this term.
The gelding won at Catterick and Ayr earlier in the campaign and has been very impressive on his last two appearances at Chester and Leicester, earning him a step up to Group Three company this weekend.
"As long as the ground stays good, then he'll take his chance as he's in good shape and clearly in the form of his life," said Dascombe.
"He's finally up to the level we thought he was capable of all along. He won on his debut as a two-year-old and we thought he was going to be a superstar, but he's actually been quite a disappointing horse.
"At least now he's coming into form and if the ground were to dry out to good to firm on Saturday, I'd be delighted.
"Looking at the race, some of the other horses look like they could do with a bit of cut in the ground, so if it's on the quick side that would be to our advantage."
