Pearl Secret: Season could be at an end
David Barron has yet to decide whether Pearl Secret will run again this season following a disappointing effort in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
The three-year-old was considered a major player for the Knavesmire sprint having created a big impression on his four previous starts, but he could only finish ninth on his Group One debut.
The Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock was considered as a possible next port of call, but if he is to run again this term, the Dubai International Airport World Trophy at Newbury on September 22 is the next available option.
"We just felt going to Haydock would be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to things not going as we'd hoped at York, so we decided to give it a miss," said Barron.
"He's been fine since the race and his work has been good. What happened at York wasn't ideal but he has to learn his trade.
"We'll see how he is and then decide what we're going to do with him. There is a Group Three at Newbury in about a fortnight's time and the Prix de l'Abbaye later on, so we'll see.
"There is no pressure from Sheikh Fahad (owner) to run the horse again this season. We'll see how the horse is over the next week or 10 days and then decide whether we do something or nothing."
