John Oxx is hopeful there is more to come from Irish St Leger Trial runner-up Hartani ahead of his crack at the Irish Classic later this month.
Following a most impressive victory in the Curragh Cup at the start of July, the three-year-old enjoyed a mid-summer break before being brought back for the Leger Trial late last month.
Sent off the odds-on favourite, Hartani had to make do with minor honours behind the impressive Ursa Major, but Oxx remains hopeful his colt can make his mark in the Gain Horse Feeds Irish St. Leger on September 15.
"He'd been quite rusty in his homework before his run. He is always quite lazy at home so he's a difficult horse to assess, but he had been particularly idle," said Oxx.
"He ran a good race and the winner is obviously quite a smart horse.
"Softer ground obviously suits our horse well, but he has won on good ground before and is going to have to run on faster ground again at some stage.
"We hope he can progress a bit from that last run and we look forward to the Irish St Leger with him."
