Popular sprinter Prohibit looks likely to miss the rest of the season after being found to be lame following his run at York on Saturday.

Trainer Robert Cowell intends to give the seven-year-old sprinter plenty of time to recover and hopes that he will be able to return to action next year.

The Oasis Dream gelding, who gave Cowell his first Group One success in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, sustained the injury when fourth to Hamish McGonagall in the John Smith's City Walls Stakes.

"Prohibit sadly has gone lame and probably won't be seen out for a while now," Cowell told At The Races.

"We took X-rays on Monday morning and he's got some issues going on in his knee. He won't run again this year.

"I don't think he'll go to Meydan in the winter. We'll probably wait for next year now, not that the injury is serious enough to keep him out that long but enough that he needs a good few months break.

"Meydan may be too quick for him so we'll bring him back next year. Hopefully he'll race on."
