Rod Street, Chief Executive of the QIPCO British Champions Series, has hailed Frankel's successful return at Newbury on Saturday.
Following his brilliant, five-length victory over Excelebration in the JLT Lockinge Stakes, the British Horseracing Authority handicapper, Dominic Gardiner-Hill, has confirmed Frankel at a new rating of 138, two pounds higher than last year's mark of 136.
Assuming this domestic mark is ratified by Gardiner-Hill's international colleagues, it will make Frankel the best horse since the modern-day World Thoroughbred Rankings (WTR) came into being when the USA joined them in 1996.
Looking Forward
Rod Street, QIPCO British Champions Series Chief Executive, said: "With Frankel back with a bang and Black Caviar to come, not to mention Camelot, Cirrus des Aigles and many others, never has there been so much to look forward to in British Flat racing over the coming months.
"With Frankel we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness sheer equine brilliance and I hope that we can harness his rapidly growing profile, which helped generate a 40% increase to Newbury's crowd on Saturday, to widen the appeal of our fantastic sport."
The Mile performance rating table for the QIPCO British Champions Series (QBCS) now looks like this:
QIPCO BRITISH CHAMPIONS SERIES MILE PERFORMANCE TABLE
HORSE RACE PERFORMANCE RATING
1 Frankel JLT Lockinge 138
2 Excelebration JLT Lockinge 125
3 Camelot QIPCO 2000 Guineas 121
4 French Fifteen QIPCO 2000 Guineas 120
5 Dubawi Gold JLT Lockinge 117
6 Hermival QIPCO 2000 Guineas 116
These performance rating tables are an innovation for 2012, with all horses finishing in the first three in a QBCS race earning a place in their category table (with their best performance rating in a particular QBCS category in 2012 counting). Non-QBCS races are not included, making the performance tables 2012 QBCS-specific.
Excelebration's performance rating on Saturday of 125 is one pound below his official rating from last year of 126, while Dubawi Gold ran to his existing rating of 117. Camelot, meanwhile, achieved a performance rating of 121 for his QIPCO 2000 Guineas victory over French Fifteen (120) and Hermival (116) two weeks earlier.
