David Pipe: Lost Bobby Ewing on the gallops on Saturday

Sky Bet

David Pipe's Champion and World Hurdle entry Bobby Ewing tragically collapsed and died on the gallops on Saturday morning.

Pipe reported on his Twitter feed: "Very sad news, Bobby Ewing has collapsed and died this morning of a heart attack."

The seven-year-old had not been seen on a racetrack since he lined up in a novice hurdle at Doncaster in December 2009.

However, on that occasion he thrashed the subsequent Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Menorah by 10 lengths and he had been seen as a possible dark horse for one of the big races at this year's Festival.

After winning two of his three novice hurdles for Nigel Twiston-Davies, he was purchased for 60,000 guineas by current connections at the Doncaster Bloodstock Sales in May 2010.
