Andre Fabre: Trains Mandaean
Godolphin's Mandaean won the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud in France on Saturday.
Trained by Andre Fabre, the half-brother to the same connections Wavering was sent off as a well supported favourite having impressed on debut at Longchamp in October.
Maxime Guyon always had his mount to the fore and the race looked over when he kicked a couple of lengths clear in the straight.
However, the son of Manduro wandered around markedly in front as he showed signs of inexperience on the heavy ground.
The field closed in but Mandaean rallied when they did so and appeared to have plenty left in the tank and looks a smart sort in the making.
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "We were very pleased with Mandaean today.
"I know he drifted around in the straight but he won well and that sets him up for a good campaign next year.
"He is an interesting prospect."
Nicolas Clement's previously unbeaten Brocottes finished second in the 10 furlong contest with German challenger Tai Chi - who had won his last three starts, including a Group Three - in third.
Sole British raider Letsgoroundagain struggled to make any impression.
