Darley Australia have revealed that Street Cry is suffering from lameness and will not be covering his scheduled book of mares in the Southern Hemisphere.
The breeding schedule in Australia began on September 1 and the blow could not have come at a worse time with the international stallion responsible for current Caulfield Guineas and Thousand Guineas favourites Chivalry and Sabatini.
The 16-year-old son of Machiavellian who is currently standing at Darley's Australian division is 'not in great shape' according to Darley Australia managing director Henry Plumptre.
Plumptre told www.racingnetwork.com.au: "It’s an ongoing lameness issue that has been really troubling the horse for a couple of weeks now.
“It’s not an obvious problem, more of a nerve issue. It’s not like a fracture or an abscess that can be easily diagnosed, and it’s not in an area that we can MRI. We’re just throwing treatments at him at the moment and looking for improvement.
“He was marginally better this week but had a slight relapse this morning. We’re doing everything we can to get him over the hump and back to good health."
Although the condition is not life threatening at this stage, Plumtre said that the horse was not out of the woods and that secondary complications could arise in the future if the condition does not improve.
Along with his current successful crop, Street Cry has been responsible for a number of Group One winners in Australia including Long John and Shocking while in the US 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, who won 19 of 20 starts, carried the flag.
