The 39-year-old steered Mountain Tunes to a dramatic victory at Towcester to reach the landmark figure and he is well on his way towards a 19th jockeys' title in a row.
And racing fan Harry Redknapp spoke about his admiration for McCoy at a Friday press conference.
"Tony McCoy's not only the greatest jockey, he's a fantastic fella," said the QPR boss.
"He's a credit to sport in general, not just horse racing. Every time he gets on a horse, the punters who have had a bet know they're going to get value for money.
"He's a great professional and a great guy and I'm delighted for him
"You don't realise how brave those boys are, how tough they are. You have to go jump racing to realise how big those fences are and the speed that they go on those horses.
"They're risking life and limb every time they ride and to ride 4,000 winners, it is just an amazing achievement."
Wenger impressed by McCoy
And, when he was asked about McCoy's feat, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he could not help but admire the jockey's dedication to his profession.
"It must be an absolutely massive achievement, because nobody else has done it," said Wenger.
"It's absolutely fantastic, I'd like to publicly congratulate him. I looked at the number of injuries the guy has suffered during the whole of his career and you must say that it's absolutely unbelievable what a guy like that has gone through, without losing his ambition, his hunger to win.
"I have huge respect for such dedication, and I must say I admire that."
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew also praised McCoy, saying: "Well, I think he's a beacon. What he's had to come through to get those 4,000 wins. His list of injuries is phenomenal, as is his ability to get up and go again.
"My wife is involved with horses, so I know how scary there are! Well played to him."
