Brandt Snedeker: The winner at Pebble Beach in February
Brandt Snedeker was the hottest player on the planet at the start of 2013.
He kicked it off with a third place in the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii and then banked a pair of runners-up finishes - first to Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines and then to Phil Mickelson in Phoenix.
All that was missing was a win but it came just seven days later as he scored a two-shot victory at Pebble Beach, a victory which elevated him to world number four.
To be honest Snedeker's hot form in 2013 was merely a continuation of his stellar play the season before.
He was the halfway leader in The Open at Royal Lytham, eventually finishing third, while victory in the Tour Championship in Atlanta saw him crowned FedEx Cup champion and put a cool £10m bonus in his back pocket.
Although a month off with a rib injury left him struggling to find his highly impressive early-season form, Snedeker found his mojo again at Augusta and played his way into the final group.
Sounding full of confidence, everything seemed in place for him to gain his first major but poor putting - his big strength - let him down in the final round and he slipped back to tied sixth.
His US Open record is pretty impressive with a tied ninth at Torrey Pines in 2008, a tied eighth at Pebble Beach in 2010 and a tied 11th at Congressional in 2011. That suggests he's one to watch closely again at Merion.
