Torrey Pines in San Diego will host the 2021 US Open, the United States Golf Association announced on Tuesday.
It will be the second time that the club's South Course has hosted the US Open, having previously staged it in 2008.
On that occasion, the winner was Tiger Woods who beat fellow-American Rocco Mediate following a play-off.
This win remains Tiger's most recent major triumph.
USGA president Tom O'Toole said: "We could not be any more excited about the concept of returning the US Open to California and back to Torrey Pines."
This year's championship will be played at Pinehurst, North Carolina, from June 12-15.
Matthias Bachinger is relishing taking on former champion Andy Murray in the second round at the US Open on Thursday.
Colin Montgomerie says US Open winner Martin Kaymer was 'head and shoulders' above the rest of the field at Pinehurst.
Butch Harmon says Martin Kaymer is playing better than ever and made his US Open victory 'look easy'.
