The Open 2014

13th-20th July

Presented by

Paul Lawrie

Paul Lawrie has emerged as European golf's renaissance man in 2012, playing arguably the best and most consistent golf of his career. Of course the pinnacle of that career came with his 1999 Open triumph at Carnoustie, but for almost the first time since that famous play-off win the 43-year-old will head to Lytham this year amongst fancied contenders to add a second major title to his CV. After a flying start to the season which saw him follow top 10s in China and Abu Dhabi with victory in Qatar, Lawrie ended an eight-year wait to play The Masters once again and finished a more than respectable 24th at Augusta. Three further top 10s have ensured that his leading objective for the season - qualifying for Europe's Ryder Cup team - is now all but a certainty and Lawrie is undoubtedly playing with a swagger. The Scot finished T42 when The Open was last held at Lytham in 2001, but many will fancy the in-form links specialist to go much better this time, especially if the weather turns nasty.
