The Open 2014

13th-20th July

Presented by

Adam Scott

Scott has much in common with Sergio Garcia: both found success at an early age, both have had high profile girlfriends, both struggle on the greens and both are seemingly being crushed by their inability to win a major. A big difference is that Garcia has frequently contended at the Open and Scott has only done so once in 12 attempts - and that was in 2006 when he was always in the top ten, but also always some way adrift of the eventual champion Tiger Woods. If we look for positives there are some. He put up a brilliant fight at the 2011 Masters to finish second. Indeed it was a performance that would have won other majors. He was seventh at last year's PGA Championship, eighth at this year's Masters and T15th in last month US Open. He also won last year's WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Majors are often won by players who have built up a store of recent consistency in the big events so he's got that going for him. But it's hard to look past that weak Open record.
