Kiradech Aphibarnrat leads by two strokes heading into the final day of the Shenzhen International in China after a late-round stumble.

The Thai looked set to lead by as many as five shots going into the closing stages of the third round, but he double bogeyed the long 17th and then dropped another stroke at the last.

Third round leaders

Par 72:
-12 K Aphibarnrat (Tha) 68
-10 P Uihlein (USA) 71
-9 P Larrazabal (Esp) 65
-8 E Grillo (Arg) 70
-8 M Ford (Eng) 70
-8 T Fleetwood (Eng) 69
-8 S Hend (Aus) 68
-7 T Lewis (Eng) 66

He leads Peter Uihlein by two, with Spain's Pablo Larrazabal a shot further back after shooting a superb round of 65 on Saturday, tied for the best score of the day with local player Hao-Tong Li.

But it was Aphibarnrat's round which stole the headlines as he constantly peppered the pins and managed nine birdies in his first 13 holes.

Aphibarnrat, who won the Malaysian Open in 2013, birdied the first three holes of the day and had a spell of seven holes without a par from the fifth, five birdies mixed in with a couple of dropped shots.

But he looked tired as the holes wore on and made a complete hash of the 17th, finding sand and then three-putting, while Uihlein made a birdie to move back into second place on his own.

And more trouble followed at the last, where he failed to make a 12-foot putt for par to drop to 12 under for the tournament, just two ahead of the American, who ended with an up-and-down round of 71.

Highlights from day three of the Shenzhen International.

"I have been striking the ball so good the first few days," Aphibarnrat said on Sky Sports 4. "Everything was going to plan, I tried to just keep the ball on the fairways. The way I played 16 holes was great golf.

"I missed a short bogey putt on the 17th, maybe thinking it was too easy, just knock it in. After hitting great shots on 15 and 16 I was thinking the game is done. I was trying to get a couple more birdies and lead by nine or 10 to confirm I can win tomorrow.

"I was striking the ball so good and rolling it great on the greens. I missed a few putts, but I am still in great shape. Just try to do the same thing tomorrow, go low and get the job done. It was a bad finish, but tomorrow is a new day."

Aphibarnrat's late problems opened the tournament up to as many as 20 other players, with the top 22 covered by seven shots.

The biggest move of the day came from Larrazabal, who struggled to a one over 73 on Thursday and is now only three strokes off the lead.

He had eight birdies in his first 16 holes to move to 10 under, but like Aphibarnrat failed to convert it into a really low score because of a bogey at the 17th.

Four more players are tied for fourth on eight under - Australia's Scott Hend, Emiliano Grillo of Argentina and English pair Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Ford.

Li matched Larrazabal's round of 65, all seven of his birdies coming in the first 14 holes on a bogey-free day, but there was no Saturday move from 2014 Masters champion Bubba Watson.

Watson stumbled round in two over 74 for the second straight day and sits 14 shots off the pace in 58th place.
