Europe captain Paul McGinley hailed his impressive team after their victory at Gleneagles

Jamie Donaldson admitted it had been "amazing" to be part of the Ryder Cup after he defeated Keegan Bradley to secure victory for Europe at Gleneagles.

The Welshman produced a stunning approach shot to the 15th green to wrap up a 4&3 triumph and get his team to the 14½ points they needed to beat the USA for a sixth time in the last seven meetings in the bi-annual event.

It meant the 38-year-old got to taste success in his cup debut, having clinched an automatic place in Paul McGinley's squad with victory in the Czech Masters back in August.

"This week has been amazing," said Donaldson, who finished up with a total haul of three points. "The lads have got on so well, it's been a great craic.

Commanding lead

Europe had started Sunday's singles with a commanding 10-6 lead and victories for Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy in the early matches pushed them closer to the magic number they required to retain their grip on the trophy.

Jamie Donaldson's iron shot on the 15th confirmed Europe's victory

Justin Rose halved with Hunter Mahan to maintain his unbeaten record and when Martin Kaymer chipped in at the 16th to see off Bubba Watson, the hosts were on the brink.

Donaldson initially missed the chance to push Europe to the required number when he couldn't hole a putt at the 14th, only to then do it in style at the next hole with a stunning approach that forced Bradley to concede.
