American gives upbeat assessment on Achilles injury

Former world number one Tiger Woods is confident of being fit for The Masters. Woods was forced to withdraw after 11 holes of the final round of the WGC Cadillac Championship last Sunday due to soreness in his left Achilles. But the 36-year-old has played down fears he would miss the opening major of the season, which takes place at Augusta on April 5-8. "I'll be there. Don't worry about it," Woods told Good Morning America on Thursday. "I took a few days off. I'll start hitting balls tomorrow." And the American even hopes to have recovered in time to tee it up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill from March 22-25. "The stiffness is gone," he added. "Hopefully, I'll be ready next week." The latest news on his condition follows an encouraging tweet Woods made on Monday, when he said: "Got good news from doc tonight. Only mild strain of left Achilles. Can resume hitting balls late in week and hopeful for next week."
