Colin Montgomerie tees-up at Gullane on Tuesday hoping to qualify for Open Championship
Colin Montgomerie is one of 287 golfers chasing 12 places during final local qualifying for this month's Open Championship at Muirfield.
Montgomerie, who turned 50 in June, is teeing-up at Gullane on Tuesday, while three other East Lothian courses - Dunbar, Musselburgh and North Berwick - are also hosting 36-hole qualifying events.
There will be three Open spots up for grabs at each of the courses, with Monty desperate to play in the world's oldest Major championship.
Montgomerie collected a top-10 finish on his Champions Tour debut in the United States on Sunday and has had to make a quick return to Britain.
He said: "The Open is the biggest championship in the game and we all want to play in it.
"Any time it's played in Scotland it's a bit extra special for me and I'm hopeful I can qualify and take my place at Muirfield."
He tees off in his first round at 8.40 am on Tuesday. Others involved in qualifying are former Ryder Cup players Mark James, Jarmo Sandelin, Paul Broadhurst and Peter Baker.
