Sergio Garcia: Played the 14th and 15th in 16 over par
Sergio Garcia ended a turbulent week reflecting on what might have been after rounding off his US Open campaign with a 74 to finish well down the field on 15 over.
The Spaniard arrived at Merion surrounded by controversy following his ill-advised "fried chicken" comment towards Tiger Woods, for which he made repeated apologies before and during the tournament.
Garcia brushed off the odd heckle from the galleries and admitted he had received favourable treatment overall, but the same could not be said of the 14th and 15th holes on the East Course.
He made eight on the 15th in the first round and a 10 on day three after pulling three drives out of bounds, and a seven at 14 in the final round meant he played the two holes in 16 over for the week.
"You take that away and I played well," Garcia said. "First day I was a little bit unfortunate, I slipped on 14 and hit it out of bounds. And 15, I hit a bad shot and obviously had to hit it again.
"But on Saturday I thought I hit two good drives to start with on 15, unfortunately they both went just out of bounds. And it's just the kind of holes that you have to be spot on.
"Today I didn't hit a big drive at 14. I missed my fairway by probably four yards and I was in the hay. So it's just that kind of tournament."
