Jordan Spieth is closing on Rory McIlroy after his Masters victory lifted him to second in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The 21-year-old American's win at Augusta on Sunday was enough to lift him from fourth in the world to second in the latest rankings.

Spieth carded a record number of birdies (28) and became the first player to reach 19 under par before a bogey on the 72nd hole meant he had to settle for a share of the 72-hole scoring record with Tiger Woods.

Woods finished joint 17th after a closing 73, moving from 111th to 101st as a result, while joint runner-up Justin Rose climbed from 11th to eighth.

Ian Poulter and Paul Casey shared sixth place at Augusta and moved up to 26th and 36th respectively.
