Ian Poulter was in confident mood on his arrival at Gleneagles for this week’s Ryder Cup which tees-off on The Centenary Course on Friday.

Europe’s inspiration from Medinah in 2012 admits that he will ‘not get too excited too soon’ ahead of the match which starts in five days’ time.

A buoyant Poulter, 38, said: “I am very much ready to go. It’s no secret I get quite pumped for this week.

“It’s Sunday, there’s a long way to go before we get to Friday.

“Right now it’s about managing the energy levels. No point getting too excited, too early. Come Thursday night I'll be pretty pumped.”

As for his activities on Sunday, it was simply: “Might have a shower, it’s been a long journey.

“I’ll freshen up, have some lunch and maybe a quick snooze. Watch the F1, some football and may even hit a few balls.

"The weather looks nice, let's hope it stays like this the entire week. I've had three weeks off, so I've been prepping, getting nice and healthy. I am ready."

Poulter's heroics over the years in the Ryder Cup means he is expected to be a marked man next weekend - and he knows it.

"It's been that way for the last few of them so it's not going to be any different. I'll go about my business the way I normally do and everything will be fine."
