Steve Stricker will compete at this week's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship after his brother underwent a successful liver transplant.
Stricker had said it was a "long shot" he would play in Arizona as he wanted to remain with brother Scott, 50, who has been in a Wisconsin hospital since January awaiting a donor organ.
But one became available last week and a successful operation was carried out on Saturday with Scott now said to be making good progress in his recovery.
As a result a delighted Stricker has decided to take part in this week's event at Dove Mountain in Marana, just north of Tucson.
"It went way better than they expected," Stricker said of his brother's surgery. "It's still going to be tough. He got through the hard part.
"It's been crazy, but I'm going to come play since he's doing so well."
World No.12 Stricker has been drawn to play South African George Coetzee in Wednesday's first round in Arizona, which you can watch live on Sky Sports 4 HD.
Stricker's participation means that first alternate Brooks Koepka is now unlikely to feature in the tournament.
