Lee Westwood is looking for a new coach after confirming he has split with Sean Foley after a brief spell together.

Westwood had only been working with Foley, who coaches Tiger Woods and Justin Rose, since before last year's Open Championship at Muirfield where he finished third after taking a two-stroke lead into the final round.

Since then he has recorded only one top-10 finish on the European Tour, ending 2013 winless, and he has slumped down the world rankings to 33rd.

Westwood also started 2014 in slow fashion with a share of 47th in the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open and a missed cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

He has now confirmed, as he prepared for this week's Northern Trust Open at Riviera in Los Angeles, that a split with Foley happened at the end of last year.

"I just wanted to work on swing positions and stuff like that a bit more. I didn't feel like Sean coached like that, so it didn't really fit what I wanted to do," Westwood said.

"I felt like I had the game that got me to world number one. And I was working on stuff that I didn't work on back then, so it made sense to go back to what I was working on before."

Asked about the process of finding a new coach, he added: "I have things in the pipeline. Nobody has got any need to apply."
