Jim Furyk followed his memorable 59 with a third round of 69 to ensure he will take a one-stroke lead into the final day of the BMW Championship in Illinois.

Although he did not produce the fireworks of Friday, Furyk was once again virtually flawless from the tee and missed only one fairway all day - that coming at the par-five 18th which would ultimately cost him one of two bogeys.

It left him at 13-under-par, one ahead of closest rival Steve Stricker who made real strides on 'moving day' with a seven-under-par 64 that included an eagle as he holed out from the fairway at 15.

Furyk's playing partner and joint-overnight leader Brandt Snedeker battled back from a poor start to post a level-par 71 that leaves him one behind Stricker at 11-under, while Tiger Woods moved himself into contention on the back of a fine 66.

For much of the day Furyk looked like he would open a much more comfortable advantage as he bounced back from a bogey at the fifth with a birdie at the short par-four seventh to hit the turn level.

Producing the kind of relentless, accurate stroke-play that saw him light up Conway Farms on Friday, he then picked up shots at 10, 11 and 15 to move clear of the field.

But it was Stricker who moved from the pack to give chase, a run of three birdies and then that eagle in the space of six holes at the start of the back nine catapulting him in behind Furyk.

Poor finish for Furyk

He would bogey the 17th after over-shooting the green and ending in the grandstands at the par-three, but a tidy birdie from the sand at the last repaired the damage.

It still appeared he would be two, possibly three back of Furyk as the leader stood on the 18th tee, but a wayward drive preceded a clumsy three-putt that brought him back to his pursuers.

After making a bogey at the fifth, Woods came alive after sinking a lengthy birdie put at six and added five more birdies in his next six holes.

He dropped a shot after driving into water at the short par-four 15th, but ensured he remained within striking distance after a birdie at the last to finish four back at nine-under.

That is one behind Zach Johnson who sits on his own in fourth, while Charl Schwartzel and Ryan Moore are tied for sixth at eight-under.

Matt Kuchar produced the round of the day with a stunning 61, while Hunter Mahan took shot of the day honours with a hole-in-one at the 17th during his 65 that moved him into the top 10.
