Darren Clarke will rejoin the US PGA Tour next year after using the exemption gained from his Open victory in 2011.
The Northern Irishman earned a five-year exemption because of his success at Royal St George's.
"I will be taking up my US PGA Tour card next season, but that does not mean I am abandoning Europe," said Clarke. "I will be supporting my home Tour as usual.
"I still feel I can be competitive at the highest level, I have always enjoyed America and the US Tour in the past and I am looking forward to playing there more often again."
Clarke has struggled to reproduce the form which brought him a first major title at the age of 42, finishing 108th on the Race to Dubai in 2012 and currently lying 127th in the standings.
