Suzann Pettersen: Second LPGA title of the season
Suzann Pettersen took advantage of a final-day collapse by Yani Tseng to clinch the LPGA Safeway Classic title in Portland.
The Solheim Cup star overcame an uncertain start to her final round to close with a five-under 67 and finish two strokes clear of Stacy Lewis.
Pettersen's challenge looked in doubt after she double-bogeyed the second, but she responded with birdies at five of the next six holes before picking up further shots at 10, 11 and 13.
She gave one back at the short 16th to slip to 20 under, but solid pars at the final two holes proved enough to secure her second win of the LPGA season and the 12th of her career.
"Very glad to pull this one off," said Pettersen. "I decided before I went out just not have too many reactions, good or bad.
"I knew there were birdies out there if you really get it going. I just tried to put the second hole behind me. It was a disaster of a hole, 150 yards."
Lewis claimed outright second after a four-under 68, achieving a rare feat of completing 72 holes without a single bogey on her card.
Her Solheim Cup team-mates Lizette Salas (-17) and Cristie Kerr (-16) both returned three-under 69s, while German Caroline Masson earned a top-four finish with a solid three-birdie 70.
Overnight leader Tseng's bid to end her 17-month winless run was scuppered early as she also double-bogeyed the second and dropped further shots at the next two.
She picked up birdies and the fifth and seventh, but three bogeys in four holes around the turn ended her challenge as she limped home in 78 to finish eight shots behind Pettersen.
