The PGA Tour is back in the mid-west for its 14th visit to TPC Deere Run.

Opened in 1999, Deere Run has some of the largest greens on the professional circuit.

It is also one of the lowest-scoring venues on Tour.

Since Deere Run made its PGA Tour debut, as many as 14 rounds of 62 or lower have been carded at the Illinois course.

Built on land once inhabited by native Americans, the venue has little in the way of water hazards - only in play on three holes - and, once again, will be the final port of call before the players travel across the Atlantic for The Open Championship at Muirfield.

Conclusion

Steve Stricker is always the default favourite in this event after his superb record of three wins in the last four years.

But 13/2?

Hmmm. Sure, Stricker is a standing dish here but he's not won on the PGA Tour for 18 months and there's a feeling that maybe his days of prolific winning are coming to an end.

The other player with a superb record here is Zach Johnson. It's not as good as Stricker's of course but a win 12 months ago, a second and a third in the last four years is still pretty hot.

Johnson hasn't been in very good form of late but it's significant that his one good showing in the last four starts came at another venue where he excels - Colonial.

His third place there cemented the idea that he's a horses-for-courses type so, here at Deere Run, he can shine again.

All in all he looks a solid each-way call at 16/1.

Louis Oosthuizen is the other class act in a rather average field and could be a big danger after returning to form with a 17th at the Greenbrier last week.

Four rounds in the 60s suggests all is well after a neck injury and, as we know, he loves a bit of John Deere machinery having bought a huge tractor with the winnings from his 2010 Open victory.

Finally, Luke Guthrie is worth an each-way punt at a decent price.

Luke Guthrie: Can cash in on his local knowledge again

The youngster was fifth here last year on just his second start as a pro and that had some logic to it.

Yes, he'd had a superb amateur career but there was a local angle too as Guthrie is an Illinois resident who went to Illinois University. In fact, his brother Zach even resigned as the assistant golf coach at Illinois to be his full-time caddie.

He's had a mixed time of it lately but 21st at Congressional two starts ago was decent and it was at this time last year when he really started to play well.

Take him at 66/1.

Best bets

2pts e.w. Zach Johnson at 16/1 (1/4 1,2,3,4,5)
2pts e.w. Louis Oosthuizen at 25/1 (1/4 1,2,3,4,5)
1pt e.w. Luke Guthrie at 66/1 (1/4 1,2,3,4,5)
