Boo Weekley delighted the crowd at Colonial as he secured his first title in five years with a one-shot victory at the Crowne Plaza Invitational.

A second successive 66 proved enough for the American to end his long drought - his only other triumphs came in 2007 and 2008 at the RBC Heritage.

-11 M Every

The 2008 Ryder Cup player managed three successive birdies from the eighth onward to move into the lead and from then on remained clear, finishing up on 14 under par.

"Finally made it back," Weekley, whose career has been hindered by injury since he won those back-to-back titles, said.

"I finally get my name on that wall with Ben Hogan and some of the greats that have played here," Weekley told the Golf Channel. It's awesome."

He had six birdies in total and came close to a seventh on the 18th green, seeing his long-range putt clip the left edge of the cup and stay up.

Still, a fifth successive par meant Matt Kuchar had to hole his second shot to force a play-off. The overnight leader tried his best out of the trees but had to settle for a birdie that meant he ended up all alone in second place.

Zach Johnson, champion at Colonial Country Club in 2012, ended his title defence in fine form, signing for a 66 to claim third place on 12 under.

Scott Stallings, who was leading until he bogeyed the 15th, John Rollins and Matt Every were a further shot back, while South African Tim Clark was in a four-man group on 10 under with Americans Josh Teater, Jordan Spieth and Chris Stroud.

Sweden's Jonas Blixt was the leading European on nine under, while England's Brian Davis slipped back to two under after a final-round 73, two strokes ahead of Scotland's Martin Laird.
