Stewart Cink and Bill Haas are joint-leaders of the Shell Houston Open on Saturday after three rounds of action at Redstone in Texas.

Cink was four-under for the day while Haas went one better after shooting a 67. Overnight leader Steve Wheatcroft bogeyed the final hole leaving him a shot back.

D.A. Points remains a shot behind the joint-leaders courtesy of a one-under round while Ben Crane and Jason Kokrak are also 10-under.

"I have been striking the ball real well and this course is a good ball strikers' course because there is almost always one side of the course that is unplayable and you have to eliminate that side," said Cink.

"If you are in control off the tee and in control with your approaches you're going to be able to eliminate that most of the way. I could see something like this coming, I'm just excited to have a chance at a win and to be teeing off late on Sunday."

Rory McIlroy's quest to regain the number one spot ahead of Tiger Woods in the world rankings appears to be on hold as he could only card a 71.

The Northern Irishman, a two-time major winner, birdied the par-4 second, the par-3 seventh and par-5 eighth. Another birdie at the 12th had him lurking within reach of the lead pack.

But McIlroy followed with bogeys at the par-5 13th and par-3 14th and closed with another bogey to finish in a share of 48th, showing no sign of making the astonishing climb it would take for victory on Sunday.

A pack of nine on 207 included England's Lee Westwood, South African Louis Oosthuizen, Sweden's Henrik Stenson, Argentina's Angel Cabrera and American Keegan Bradley.
