Tiger Woods and Ernie Els will play together for opening two rounds at Bay Hill

Defending champion Tiger Woods will play alongside Ernie Els and Justin Rose for the opening two rounds of this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

Woods - who can regain the World No 1 spot with victory - heads into the tournament as red-hot favourite having already won at the venue on seven previous occasions.

The latest was a resounding five-shot triumph 12 months ago which provided the starting point for a run that has now seen him win five of his last 18 PGA Tour events.

Should he win the Arnold Palmer hosted event this week, not only would it take him back to the top of the world rankings, but it would mean that Bay Hill would join Torrey Pines as the venue at which he has most wins, with eight.

Els is himself a multiple winner of the event having emerged victorious at the Florida lay-out in 1998 and in 2012, while Rose will be looking for his first success in what will be his ninth visit.

Another of the marquee groups sees Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia paired with the returning Brandt Snedeker who makes his first appearance in more than a month after recovering from a rib injury.

Elsewhere, Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson and Bill Haas play together, while Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter and Keegan Bradley form another eye-catching trio.
