Matt Kuchar admitted it was an "incredible feeling" to clinch his first World Golf Championships title at the Accenture Match Play Championship over the weekend.

The American, 34, beat compatriot and defending champion Hunter Mahan in Sunday's final, collecting his second big win in the space of nine months having also won the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass last May.

Kuchar conceded it was hard to decide which of the wins had brought him more pleasure, but said that the relentless format of the match play event made his eventual triumph even more satisfying.

"It's an incredible feeling," Kuchar told reporters. "Tough to compare with the match play difference, but you've got two fields that are the strongest fields in golf.

"But to be here, to win my first World Golf Championship in this format, to win six matches, to win two matches on Saturday and two matches on Sunday, it is just an amazing feeling."

Staying in the moment

Kuchar insisted that staying in the moment had been the key to his victory in Arizona, adding: ""I did a great job today of being excited to hit the next shot.

"I knew that if I was to have a lapse of any sort, mentally or physically... the match could swing, momentum could swing pretty quickly.

"I had a great time, but I was also very focused on what I was doing. In match play, you can't get too far ahead of yourself. Every hole is so key that it keeps you a little bit more in the present. That probably helped me a bit today."

Having climbed to eighth in the world rankings on the back of his success, Kuchar will now be amongst the favourites for the season's first major - the Masters in April.

But Kuchar, who lives not far from Augusta National in Georgia, is not looking too far ahead, stating: "My sights are not yet set on Augusta. Every week is a great opportunity and the next tournament is the most important to me."
