Phil Mickelson has confirmed that he will not be competing at the WGC-Accenture Match Play at the end of the month.

The 42-year-old, who moved back into the world's top 10 with his victory at the Phoenix Open last weekend, revealed that he will instead be taking a family holiday with his three children all off school that week.

It is the third time in the last four years that Mickelson has opted to skip the tournament - the first World Golf Championship event of the year.

The world's top 64 players secure an invite to Dove Mountain golf resort in Tucson, Arizona to compete, with Hunter Mahan the defending champion having beaten Rory McIlroy in last year's final.

Mickelson has made the quarter-finals of the event only once in 11 appearances, and that back in 2004 when the event was staged at La Costa golf resort.

This year's event takes place in two weeks, running from February 20-24.
