The Farmers Insurance Open is scheduled to finish on Monday after play was suspended during the third round due to heavy fog.

Tiger Woods will have to wait at least another 24 hours to win his 75th PGA Tour title after heavy fog wreaked havoc on Saturday's third round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

Tee times were initially pushed back for three hours before play eventually started at Torrey Pines, but after five minutes on the course, conditions had visibly decreased and were cancelled for the day.

"We basically lost the whole day today, so we'll be back here in position at 7.00 in the morning," PGA Tour's vice president of rules and competition Mark Russell said at a press conference.

"We're going to play golf all day until dark and then when it gets dark, we'll suspend play. We'll come back Monday morning and finish the championship if the weather cooperates. That is the plan.

"Usually with over 78 players (left after the second round) we make a cut after the third round, but we're not going to make a cut. We're not going to re-pair. We'd lose too much time."

Monday finish

Russell was unable to say for certain how much play is likely to take place on Monday, he replied "...we're going to have anywhere from 12 to nine holes Monday, something like that."

"We will play 72 holes. If we get half the field in (finished) in the final round, the round must stand."

After two rounds, Woods leads the event by two shots after firing a 65 in difficult conditions on Friday.

A six-times winner at Torrey Pines, Woods is at 11-under par, with American Billy Horschel two strokes further back.

"I'll be ready to go tomorrow. I have been out here long enough to know that this is part of the game," Woods said after Saturday's round was called off.

Saturday's fog delay was the first at the Farmers Insurance Open since 2005, when play was suspended on two days of the event.
