Tiger Woods: Leading the way at Torrey Pines yet again

Tiger Woods: Leading the way at Torrey Pines yet again

Tiger Woods reignited his love affair with Torrey Pines by moving two clear at the halfway mark of the Farmers Insurance Open.

Woods is a six-time winner of this tournament (1999, 2003, 2005-8) and also landed the 2008 US Open title there - the most recent of his 14 major titles.

And, after a near five-year gap, he's in perfect position to take victory at the California venue again after shooting a second-round seven-under 65 to climb to 11-under and move clear of the pack.

Woods, playing the easier North Course, started his round at the 10th hole and was quiet early on with just one birdie in his first seven holes.

But a sudden scoring burst saw Woods go birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie at 17, 18, 1 and 2 and he added two more birdies against a single bogey at eight to complete what looked an easy 65.

The South Course is used on both weekend rounds and Woods will start there two shots in front of fellow American Billy Horschel, who moved into solo second with a 69.

England's Ross Fisher looked set for a third round pairing with Woods but slipped back into a tie for ninth on seven-under after bogeys at two of his final four holes.

Nick Watney, also at seven-under, is the only real big name within four shots of Woods after Dustin Johnson (72) and Phil Mickelson (71) finished at three-under and one-under respectively.

Joint overnight leader Brandt Snedeker also has serious ground to make up on Woods after he followed his 65 on the North with a 75 on the South to fall seven off the pace.

The best recovery in round two came from Rickie Fowler who followed up his 77 on the South with a 65 on the North to make the cut with a shot to spare.
