Graeme McDowell: Has happy memories of World Challenge having beaten Tiger Woods to win it in 2010
Graeme McDowell admits he is delighted to be back in California this week to contest the World Challenge event, hosted by Tiger Woods.
The Northern Irishman has happy memories of both the tournament and state having finished as runner-up in 2009 and then going one better the following year as he edged out Woods in memorable style.
McDowell holed two lengthy putts in succession, the first to force a play-off and the second to win it as he capped off a triumphant 2010 season that also saw him collect the US Open title at Pebble Beach and lead Europe to victory in the Ryder Cup.
The 33-year-old opted to swerve the event in California last season to compete in the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa, but is looking forward to doing battle at Sherwood Country Club once again this week.
Nice to be back
"Obviously it's nice to be back in this part of the world," McDowell stated.
"California has been pretty good to me during my career so far, especially this event. I was second in '09 and to win here in 2010 was very special.
"Geographically it wasn't a good decision for me to come back here last year. I decided to go to Sun City before the Race to Dubai Championship because I figured it would be an easier journey from South Africa to Dubai.
"So it's great to be able to come back here this year. It's a good golf course and there are good memories for me here."
