Ian Poulter: Crowned 2012 champion on the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills
Next year's WGC HSBC Champions, which will move back to Shanghai, will be an official event on the PGA Tour.
The 2013 winner will gain a three-year exemption to play on the PGA Tour while total prize money will be raised to $8.5million; sponsors HSBC have also confirmed they are extending their contract for a further three years.
Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai will once again host the WGC tournament after it was staged on the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills in 2012.
Englishman Ian Poulter was crowned this year's champion after back-to-back rounds of 65 clinched him a two-shot victory.
"Today's announcements are important in elevating the status of the WGC HSBC Champions as a whole," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said.
"This event will take on new meaning because it will have an important impact on the status of the FedEX Cup standings as we come into the first week of the season."
Finchem also stated that the PGA would continue to exert its policy of not letting players receive appearance fees.
