Davis Love: Still haunted by Ryder Cup defeat

Davis Love III admitted that he is still haunted by thoughts of how he went wrong at Medinah during Europe's amazing comeback victory in the Ryder Cup.

Five days on from Europe's spectacular victory in Chicago, the USA Ryder Cup captain is still being tormented by that final Sunday singles session as his side lost a commanding 10-6 lead to Jose Maria Olazabal's men.

Love is back on the golf course playing again to take his mind off things, and he is proving competitive at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.

A second-round 67 lifted him to seven-under-par 135, seven shots behind co-leaders Jonas Blixt and Brendon de Jonge but just about in the mix heading into the weekend.

It is the events of last weekend which continue to dog Love though, the 48-year-old still wondering what he might have done differently to arrive at the desired outcome rather than the eventual crushing disappointment.

"It's good to get back to playing," he said. "It distracts me for four, five hours a day from thinking about last week.

"I've got a lot of great memories from last week, and when I get by myself I start second-guessing and start wishing that we would have done something a little different and could've got those guys a win."

Asked how long his mind would stay on the topic, Love said: "A long time. I don't think it'll ever go away.

"It was a great (United States) team. They played great. They had some bad breaks on Sunday and some guys holed some putts on 'em and turned it over.

"You can't take away from a great week, but winning is what it's all about and we didn't win it."

Love will have to go some to make a charge for victory this weekend, with the low-scoring theme of the opening two rounds likely to continue.
