Swede lands fifth PGA Tour title in South Carolina

Carl Pettersson eased to a five-shot victory after a closing 69 at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Tour Golf Links. The Swede, leading by one heading into the final round, pulled away in the early stages before finishing on 14-under-par - five clear of American Zach Johnson. Pettersson's playing partner Colt Knost was a shot further adrift in third place after bogeying the last hole. Knost also started with a bogey and a triple-bogey at the third effectively ended his chances of challenging for top honours.

Brian Davis was the top Briton in joint 13th, while Luke Donald ended a tournament to forget in joint 37th to lose his world number one ranking to Rory McIlroy. The Englishman, who closed with a second successive level-par 71, needed to finish in the top eight to retain top spot, but ended on two over, 16 shots behind Pettersson. The Swede got off to a flying start with three birdies in his first five holes, and he could comfortably afford a bogey six on the 15th. Johnson was also three under through five for the round as he looked to rival Pettersson, but four bogeys and only two more birdies ended his challenge. Knost's hopes were all but ended by a triple-bogey seven on the third as he completed his final round in three over. He finished ahead of two more Americans, Kevin Stadler and Billy Mayfair, on six under.
