Aussie unimpressed by Couples' early announcement on Woods

Geoff Ogilvy has criticised US captain Fred Couples for the way he went about selecting Tiger Woods for his Presidents Cup team. Australian Ogilvy will form part of Greg Norman's Internationals side which takes on Couples' men in Melbourne next month. Couples revealed weeks in advance of his deadline that Woods, despite struggling for form and having missed much of the season through injury, would receive one of his two wildcard picks. Ogilvy insists that was the wrong way to have gone about things. "You can't ever say that picking Tiger Woods is a bad selection," stated the 34-year-old. "(But) I don't agree with the way he picked him, announcing it months early, basically telling the guys who are on the fringe of the US team there's really only going to be one pick."

Sympathy for Bradley

Indeed, Ogilvy joined the likes of Phil Mickelson in expressing his surprise that Couples overlooked USPGA champion Keegan Bradley in order to select Woods and FedEx Cup winner Bill Haas. Of Bradley, he added: "He's won two tournaments this year, one of them being a major, and he hasn't made the team, which is astonishing really that you can do that in a year and not make the team. "I'm not going to stand up and say Tiger is a horrible pick, but I'm going to say it's very disappointing that Keegan Bradley doesn't get to play." Bradley could yet make the US for the match at Royal Melbourne Golf Club if Steve Stricker is forced to withdraw through injury.
