American wins for the first time in three years at Reno-Tahoe Open

John Rollins closed with a level-par round of 72 to secure his third PGA Tour title at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Rollins' 17-under-par total was three better than fellow American Jeff Quinney and Scotland's Martin Laird. Starting the day with a a four-stroke advantage, Rollins looked to be cruising to victory when a birdie at the second helped extend his lead to six. But a double bogey on the par-five fourth gave the chasing pack hope before the Virginian reasserted his supremacy with a birdie at the ninth. He followed up with a chip-in eagle at the par-five 11th and, despite three bogeys in four holes from the 12th, closed out the win with a birdie at the 17th.

Struggle

"It's huge. It was a struggle out there though," said the 34-year-old, who was runner-up at this event last year. "I had to battle a lot of emotions. It was kind of an up and down day." Quinney's best-of-the day 66 saw him finish at 14-under-par, enough for a share of second place alongside Laird, who signed for a 69. Another American, Joe Ogilvie (71), finished alone in fourth at 13 under, with Germany's Alex Cejka (67) and American duo, Kevin Na (68) and Ryan Palmer (73), one further adrift and tied for fifth.
