Paul Lawrie has confirmed he will miss next month's Trophee Hassan II in Morocco because it clashes with the Scottish League Cup final.

The veteran Scot has opted to go to Celtic Park to watch his beloved Aberdeen take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle on March 16 rather than try to pick up valuable Ryder Cup points in Agadir.

Lawrie, who played a huge role in the "Miracle at Medinah" in 2012, is struggling to qualify for this year's clash with the USA at Gleneagles following a slow start to the season.

The 45-year-old is currently languishing at 68th in the European qualifying standings, but he had previously admitted he faced a dilemma after the Dons beat St Johnstone in the semi-finals.

But during a Q&A session on Twitter, Lawrie announced that he would put his Ryder Cup hopes on hold for a week to watch Aberdeen play their first major final for 14 years.

When asked if he would be at Parkhead or Morocco next month, he replied: ""Yes, going to the final."

The fifth edition of the Trophee Hassan II, won by Germany's Marcel Siem last season, takes place between March 13 and 16 at the Golf du Palais Royal.

Lawrie also revealed he would be keen to assist European captain Paul McGinley at Gleneagles if he failed to make the team as a player.
