Henrik Stenson is already looking forward to returning to Ryder Cup action in the autumn and plans to arrive at Gleneagles early to gain vital knowledge of the Nicklaus Course.

The Swede is effectively guaranteed a place on the European team after scoring a huge amount of world ranking point during his stunning run of form in the second half of last season.

Stenson, who has not played in the Ryder Cup since 2008, became the first man to the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai in the same year and collected 240 points, almost 70 more than Martin Kaymer needed to qualify for the team in 2012.

But the 37-year-old has not played at Gleneagles since 2004, or seen the alterations made in recent years, and he intends to travel to Scotland immediately after the Tour Championship in Atlanta - assuming he qualifies.

"It's been quite a few years since I played the Gleneagles tournament," said Stenson, who holed the winning putt at the Ryder Cup in 2006.

"I'm thinking about maybe making my way over a little bit early to get rid of some jet-lag and possibly get another round in before everybody else gets there.

"That's a more likely scenario than making a trip there while I'm in Scotland because we've got both the Scottish Open and the Open Championship to look after in the summer."
