The topic was back in the headlines last week as Justin Rose admitted before the inaugural Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya that he had never been tested whilst playing in European Tour events.
The Tour have now come out to explain that the Englishman's extensive playing commitments in America are the reason for this and insist they are relaxed about the measures they have in place.
David Garland, director of European Tour operations, told Sky Sports: "If Justin Rose has been tested three or four times in America maybe I might take him out of the random process because we know he's already been tested.
"I'm privy to the results and I don't think we have a problem at all.
"But we are not complacent and we will be continuing our testing, although it's not every single week."
The players themselves admit they have differing experiences when it comes to the regularity of tests, with Luke Donald stating: "I've been tested once in the last few years [on the European Tour], I get tested a lot more in the US."
Nicolas Colsaerts said: "I've been tested three times over a period of four years, that seems good enough. Yeah, you should have guys going in the office once in a while just to keep our sport clean."
Meanwhile, Peter Hanson added: "I've been drug tested quite a bit actually, but it is a random pick. I've been playing over in Europe quite a bit more than Justin [Rose] and we do get drug tested quite a bit."
But Matteo Manassero thinks there should be a more level playing field when it comes to the amount of testing each player receives, regardless of where their schedule might be based.
"Players that don't play much over here, so the ones that just play the minimum tournaments, they have very, very few chances to be drug tested," declared the Italian youngster.
"I don't really think that's fair, I think everybody should get drug tested twice a year probably."
