Aussie Rebecca Artis enjoys her maiden European Tour success in Sweden
Rebecca Artis carded a closing 69 at the Helsingborg Open in Sweden to secure her maiden title on the Ladies European Tour.
The Aussie teed-off in a tie for fourth on the final day, and five strokes off the pace, but she made her move with four birdies in five holes from the seventh as she overhauled Caroline Hedwall, Valentine Derrey and Lee-Anne Pace - none of whom could break par on Sunday.
Artis could even afford a bogey-five at 18, as she held off Hedwall by a single stoke.
Sweden's Hedwall, the home favourite and overnight leader at Vasatorp by four strokes, struggled badly as she slipped to four over par for the day through 11 holes.
She managed to grab her only birdie of the day at the par-three 17th, but was unable to snatch another on the final hole which would have earned her a play-off with Artis.
Hedwall's 75 left her two shots clear of Derrey whose closing 73 meant the French player had to settle for third place.
South African Pace, meanwhile, was a further two shots following a 75.
British veteran Laura Davies joined Artis as the only two players to break 70 on the final day.
Davies, who turns 50 next month, posted a joint best-of-day 69 with a round that yielded seven birdies and four bogeys.
Her final round surge, that produced four straight birdies on the front nine, allowed Davies to move 15 spots up the leaderboard and into fifth spot.
A delighted Artis said: "It was a great day out there. I played solid golf all day and to walk away with a win is unbelievable.
"I knew that I had to go out there and make some birdies early on and put some pressure on the leaders.
"I put myself into contention going into the back nine and knew that if the conditions were like they were the first three days and windy, that anything could happen.
"It's not an easy golf course when the wind's up like that, so I just knew that if I could get off to a good start and post some birdies I could be right in it down the stretch.
