Ernie Els birdied the last to retain a share of the lead heading into the final round of the BMW International Open in Munich.

Alexander Noren of Sweden had posted a total of 15 under par with a round of 66 but Els - who has led from the start - joined him on that mark after carding a second successive 69, alongside Frenchman Alexander Levy.

Third round leaderboard:

US & Ire unless stated

-15 E Els (SA)
-15 A Levy (Fra)
-15 A Noren (Swe)
-14 T Bjorn (Den)
-14 M Baldwin
-13 P Uihlein (US)

The trio have just a shot in hand of the charging Thomas Bjorn, who turned in a joint best-of-the-day 65, and England's Matthew Baldwin (69). American Peter Uihlein is just two off the pace with a clutch of players on -12.

Els reached the turn in level par but three birdies on the back-nine, including one on the last, moved him back to the top of the leaderboard.

Noren moved into a share of the lead thanks to five birdies in a steady round while Levy also birdied the last.

Bjorn has finished second and in a tie for fourth in his last two events and is now hoping he can claim his first win of the season on Sunday.

Home favourites Marcel Siem and Martin Kaymer were also on 12 under along with Danny Willett, who will be aiming to be the first man to successfully defend this title.

Garcia was the only other player to shoot a seven-under par round to move four off the lead with seven birdies in a flawless 65.

Play started an hour late due to the weather and around an hour and 20 minutes was lost in the early afternoon as the rain continued to come down - but that did not seem to distract the field too much as the men at the top continued to post low scores.
