Stephen Gallacher revealed that a change of driver has been the key to his hot form in the Dubai Desert Classic.

The Scot, who carded a 63 on day one, bettered that with a brilliant 62 on Saturday and now holds a three-shot lead going into the final round.

The 38-year-old kicked off 2013 with a missed cut in Abu Dhabi and a modest tied 59th in Qatar but said there were good reasons for his slow start to the campaign.

"At the end of the year I played good. I was four top 10s out of five and then I had a little knee-op so I was just a wee bit rusty," said the Scot.

"My driving was poor the first couple of weeks and I now know I had a hairline fracture in it so I changed drivers and I'm hitting more fairways again."

"My driving was poor the first couple of weeks and I now know I had a hairline fracture in it so I changed drivers and I'm hitting more fairways again. You've got to play these courses from the fairways."

Gallacher finished runner-up in this event last year and also made the top 10 in 2011 and said his familiarity with the par 72 Emirates course offers another explanation for his excellent display so far.

"I come out here on holiday with the family so I think I'm pretty familiar with it. You know where to hit it, you know the lines and stuff. I've been coming here for years. I just like the course, it's in unbelievable condition as well."

As for his bid to turn a three-shot lead into just a second European Tour title in 20 years, Gallacher added: "I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it."
