Henrik Stenson: glad to get his driver out

Sky Bet

Henrik Stenson shrugged off the lingering effects of jetlag to move into a four-shot lead after two days of the South African Open.

The Swede, 19th at the PGA Tour's season-ending event in Florida on Sunday, did not land in Johannesburg until Tuesday and is still struggling with the time difference.

"I went to bed at midnight last night and woke up at 1.40am - I guess the body thought it was a bit of an afternoon kip," he said after his second round 65. "I slept another couple of hours, so I don't know what time of day it is really."

But Stenson added that the Serengeti course suits him - not least because he can blast the ball past a lot of the trouble.

"I counted eight drives on the course yesterday and that's probably as many as I hit the entire 2011 season. It's nice to get the feel back with the driver and get a bit of confidence.

"On this course, if you can fly it 280 or 290 metres, then you can take a lot of bunkers out of play and end up going in with a gap wedge instead of a seven-iron.

"It's a huge advantage - there are probably seven or eight holes where it makes a difference."

The 36-year-old came into the event ranked 59th in the Race to Dubai and is on course to book a spot at next week's DP World Tour Championship for the top 60. But he is also determined to claim a first win for more than three years.

"There's still a lot of golf to be played." he added. "I've put myself in a nice position going into the weekend, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm eager to win."
