Shane Lowry was delighted to finally register his first victory on the European Tour as a professional at Villamoura.

The Irishman won the Portugal Masters by a stroke from Ross Fisher, the highlight of a final round 66 being an eagle-two at the 11th hole.

Lowry famously won the Irish Open in 2009 while still in the unpaid ranks and was pleased to be able to shed that tag.

"It's a dream really, I've spent the last four years being known as the fellow that won the Irish Open as an amateur," he told Sky Sports.

"I've stated my purpose on the European Tour and I've won a big tournament so I'm just over the moon."

The popular Lowry had a huge following and the 25-year-old the supp0ort played a big part in the win.

"It was like playing in Ireland, it was crazy," he added. "It was great. They helped me today as I struggled at the start with a three-putt at the first.

"I holed the seven iron on 11 and I thought then this could be my day and thankfully it is.

"I just got into a tie but we had a long wait on the 12th tee which was good, I had time to compose myself. I just took it one shot at a time on the way in and a big thanks to my caddie, who was brilliant today."
