Irishman leads by one but long Sunday lies ahead

Damien McGrane leads the way midway through the third round of the weather-hit Hassan II Trophy in Morocco. The Irishman is one clear of the chasing pack on 12 under par having played 10 holes but only 29 of those who made a belated cut were able to complete their rounds. McGrane had been three clear earlier in the round with birdies at the third and fourth but he made three bogeys in the next five before restoring an advantage moments before play was halt owing to poor light. "It was a nice way to finish the day with a birdie but I have to be honest and say that it was a bit of a mixed bag out there today," McGrane said. "I can't complain too much. I am in the position you want to be going into the final day and hopefully I can get the job done. We'll have a winner so hopefully that can be me."

Dream

Italian teenager Matteo Manassero and Jose Manuel Lara of Spain led the chasers having played 15 and 10 respectively, the former making six birdies without blemish as he searches for a win that would book his ticket to Augusta. "The dream is still alive and I have to try my best to make it happen," he said. "I am certainly going to try and win the event first and foremost, and then if the Masters happens it would be amazing. "I have to say that the extra prize of the Masters really helps me as well. It gives me extra motivation and I seem to play better in that kind of situation." Michael Hoey of Northern Ireland is the clubhouse leader after carding a 65 that included an eagle and eight birdies to finish on 10-under. However, the three-time European Tour winner let slip the chance to finish better when he bogeyed the last. Mikko Ilonen of Finland is a shot further back after a round of 66, alongside Joel Sjoholm and Phillip Price who are still to complete their rounds. Play will resume early Sunday, with players going off from the first and 10th tees.
