Morbey to carry the bag for Open champion this month

Darren Clarke has enlisted former caddie Phil Morbey on a temporary basis as he looks to halt a woeful run of form. The Ulsterman reached the pinnacle of his career last summer with victory in the Open Championship at Sandwich. But he has failed to register a single top-10 finish since then, slumping to 54 in the world rankings. He finished in a tie for 20th at the Volvo Golf Champions tournament in South Africa last month, but subsequently missed the cut in Abu Dhabi before parting company with John Mulrooney, who was on the bag at Sandwich.

Three-week stint

He will now link up with Morbey - who had a spell on his bag during the 2008 season - for a three-week run in the States which will see him play the WGC-Accenture Match Play, the Honda Classic and the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. Morbey currently works for Danny Willett, but the young Englishman has agreed to the temporary switch as he is currently on a month-long break after a busy start to his year. "Darren and I go back a long way so I've known him for ages and I'm looking forward to the three-week spell," Morbey told www.golfbytourmiss.com. Morbey is a veteran of the European scene having also carried the bag for the likes of Ian Woosnam, Jose Maria Olazabal, Thomas Bjorn and Ross Fisher.
